Part I. Introduction

Intel Spatial Audio for Java* enables Microsoft, Netscape and Sun Java execution environments to run Java applets containing spatialized audio on the PC.

Intel Spatial Audio for Java is available in two configurations: Software Development Kit (SDK) and Runtime. Install the SDK if you are a developer and you want to integrate spatialized audio into your Java applets or applications. Install one of the Runtimes if you want to run Java applets that use Intel Spatial Audio for Java in either Microsoft Internet Explorer* or Netscape Navigator*.

Intel Spatial Audio for Java uses Intel Realistic 3D Sound Experience (RSX 3D) as its spatialized audio rendering engine. More information on Intel RSX 3D is available at http://www.intel.com/ial/rsx.

Intel Spatial Audio for Java is part of the Intel Media for Java* program. More information can be found at http://developer.intel.com/ial/jmedia.

This Beta software expires on April 30th, 1997.

Part III. Installation

Please refer to http://developer.intel.com/ial/jmedia/Spatial.htm for information on system requirements, and downloading and installing Intel Spatial Audio for Java.

If Intel Spatial Audio for Java has already been installed, you must uninstall the old version before installing a newer version. Refer to the Uninstall section for instructions.

The Intel Spatial Audio for Java SDK and Runtimes do not contain a compiler. If you are going to create Java applets, install the Sun Java Developer's Kit. This can be downloaded from http://www.javasoft.com/java.sun.com/products/JDK/index.html.

Part IV. Uninstall

Uninstall Intel Spatial Audio for Java by using the Windows* 95 or Windows NT* Uninstall utility. From the Control Panel, choose the Add/Remove Program. To uninstall any component, highlight it and push the Add/Remove button.

To uninstall the Intel Spatial Audio for Java SDK, uninstall the following components:

  • Intel Spatial Audio for Java SDK
  • Intel Spatial Audio for Java IE Runtime
  • Intel Spatial Audio for Java Netscape Runtime

If you have installed only the Internet Explorer Runtime, uninstall the Intel Spatial Audio for Java IE Runtime component.

If you have installed only the Netscape Navigator Runtime, uninstall the Intel Spatial Audio for Java Netscape Runtime component.

Installing any of the Runtime or SDK components will cause Intel RSX 3D to be installed on your computer. If you wish to uninstall Intel RSX 3D, you must do so separately. However, remember that Intel Spatial Audio for Java requires Intel RSX 3D. Other applications may also utilize the software.

Note to Windows 95 users: The uninstall program will not edit the CLASSPATH variable in your autoexec.bat file. To uninstall, edit autoexec.bat and remove the C:\Program Files\intel\java\classes and C:\Program Files\intel\java\classes\spaud.zip arguments in the CLASSPATH variable.
