What's New in VTune 2.1
Enhanced functionality and improved performance!
To satisfy customers' demands and to support new operating system and processor technologies, Intel
presents VTune 2.1, now even more refined and tuned to improve your application's performance on the
Intel Architecture.
Following are the enhancements and improvements provided by the VTune 2.1 update:
What's New in VTune 2.11
Besides several bug fixes and improvements, the VTune 2.11 patch adds support for the following:
Function and Source File Hotspots
In addition to the HotSpots by Memory Locations presented by VTune 2.0, VTune 2.1 provides two new views: HotSpots by Functions and HotSpots
by Source Files.
- The HotSpots by Functions graph displays the amount of CPU time spent in each active function in your module.
You can double-click on any function in this graph to display the hotspots within that function.
-
The HotSpots by Source Files graph shows the amount of CPU time spent in each active source file in your module.
You can double-click on any source file in this graph to display the hotspots within that source file.
Enhanced Coach
A new Coach feature recognizes sequential searching of arrays or lists and recommends alternative algorithms.
Pentium® Pro Processor Support
Enhanced Static Assembly Analysis view displays the following:
- How each instruction is decoded by the Pentium® Pro processor's three decode units.
- The number of micro-ops each assembly instruction is composed of.
- Improved detection of the penalties or stalls your code might
incur on a Pentium Pro processor-based system.
Pentium® II Processor Support
- The Static Assembly Analysis view displays new warnings that inform you of the penalties, stalls,
or prefixes your code might incur on the Pentium® II processor (the Pentium Pro processor with MMX(TM) technology).
- A new option allows you to preview the event counters available on the Pentium II processor.
You need a Pentium II processor to sample these events.
Source and Assembly Code View Enhancements
- A new Format dialog box allows you to specify or change the font size, type, and color used to display the
source and assembly code in the Source and Assembly code views.
- VTune 2.1 provides more flexibility in selecting the range of code for Dynamic Analysis. Now the Simulation Entry and Exit
points can reside in different Portal Views.
Windows* NT* 4.0 Support
VTune 2.1 offers full support for Time and Event-Based Sampling on NT 4.0. Beta versions of NT 4.0 are not supported.
