The demonstration you are about to see highlights the flow of data in a typical Web server platform--both for a standard server and for a server configured with the Intel I/O Solution--an Intel I/O processor and the I2O intelligent I/O architecture.

A Web server must be able to efficiently and effectively transfer data between the RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) subsystem and the internet gateway, as this operation is very frequently executed in order for users to read pages from the web site. With a standard system, all data that is read from disk must first travel into system memory prior to being sent to the gateway, where it's sent to the Web browser.

An Intel I/O processor and the I2O architecture provide the framework to allow direct file transfers between the disk and the internet gateway, providing a potentially significant increase in performance and scalability.

To get started, click on "demo without" on the banner above to view a conventional Web server motherboard design and explore its components. Then click on "demo with" to explore a Web server based on a newer motherboard design with Intel's I/O processor and the I2O Intelligent I/O architecture. This demo requires the mBED plug-in, which you can obtain by clicking on the mBED logo at the bottom of this page or the demo page.
