Product Description
Intel's family of products for the deployment of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) specification enables PC and peripheral designers to easily integrate the benefits of USB for their customers. The Intel USB product family includes the Intel 440FX PCIset for Pentium Pro processor-based business PCs; the Intel 430HX PCIset for high performance in Pentium processor-based business PC applications; the Intel 430VX PCIset for advanced multimedia capability in top-value PCs designed for home and small business users, and the 8x930Ax Universal Serial Bus peripheral controller for virtually unlimited Plug and Play "outside the box" expansion involving applications such as digital joysticks, digital cameras and integrated PC/telephony devices.

The Intel 440FX PCIset
Intel's new 440FX PCI chip set brings the performance advantages of the Pentium Pro processor and the Universal Serial Bus (USB) to mainstream business PCs. The 440FX PCIset incorporates a number of enhancements to support leading-edge 32-bit performance. These include CPU-to-DRAM pipelining, read-around write, dynamic deferring, write burst combining and I/O queue.

The 440FX PCIset delivers higher performance with just half the number of components as previous Intel PCIset designs. In addition, higher integration makes the 440FX PCIset even more cost-effective than earlier Intel PCIsets. The 440FX design features a 3-chip implementation featuring a PCI and memory controller, data bus accelerator and PCI/ISA/IDE accelerator. The chip set also supports Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP), enabling design evolution to dual-processor system configurations.

The 440FX PCIset supports Concurrent PCI architecture (PCI 2.1) for faster multimedia performance and improved scalability. More efficient operation of CPU, PCI and ISA transactions supports improved video performance. Audio performance is also enhanced because CPU and PCI masters have interleaved access to the bus during ISA, DMA and bus master cycles. Deeper write buffers enable superior performance for both CPU and PCI 2.1 and 2.0 compatible add-in cards for built-in scalability and flexible system expansion. Bus Master IDE allows faster access to hard drives and CD-ROMs, while making fewer demands on the CPU. As a result, users will notice an immediate improvement in multimedia performance. Integrated Error Checking and Correction (ECC) in the memory controller provides double-bit detection and single-bit correction. The result is improved system reliability for 32-bit business applications.

The Intel 430HX PCIset
The Intel 430HX PCIset helps you achieve the real performance advantages of Intel Concurrent PCI architecture (incorporating PCI 2.1). You can design a new generation of Pentium processor-based business PCs with built-in scalability—enabling you to add features and capabilities at a variety of price points, without degrading system performance. Universal Serial Bus (USB) support enables a wide spectrum of peripherals that are hot Plug and Play "right out of the box."

Uncompromised EDO timing performance matches up to 10% performance advantage of an L2 cache-based system, without the cache. It supports 64Mbit DRAM (for up to 512MB of system DRAM), and integrates the memory address buffers. Integrated deep-posting and FIFO buffers enable concurrent activity on both sides of the System and Data Controller for improved CPU utilization. ECC and parity memory support are integrated into the chip set. The 430HX PCIset single-chip host bridge requires 60% less board real estate.

The Intel 430VX PCIset
The Intel 430VX PCIset helps you design a new generation of Pentium processor-based PCs for multimedia, games and personal productivity software. Improved EDO memory support, faster timing and support for ad-vanced synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) enable a breakthrough in performance. An option for Shared Memory Buffer Architecture (SMBA) permits sharing part of system memory with the graphics controller for ultra-cost-sensitive PCs.

The 430VX PCIset integrates support for the Universal Serial Bus (USB) specification, so home users can add a wide variety of Plug and Play digital devices, from mice, keyboards and trackpads to joysticks.

Intel Concurrent PCI architecture (incorporating PCI 2.1) means that as new sound and video applications hit the market, PC users can add new PCI cards without degrading system performance. You'll see enhanced performance for hi-fi, 3-D, audio, full-motion video and the hottest new "edu-game" software. At the same time, the common "business core" at the heart of the 430VX PCIset lets you leverage your investment in BIOS code and development tools.

The Intel 930HA Universal Serial Bus-Compliant Peripheral Controller
The 930HA USB-compliant controller is an 8-bit single-chip microcontroller implementing the Universal Serial Bus 1.0 specification. The microcontroller connects a wide variety of external peripherals including telephony equipment, keyboards, monitors, printers, games and other devices to the host PC, equipped with a Pentium processor and Intel 430HX or 430VX PCIset and other USB-equipped systems.

The 930HA USB-compliant controller is based on Intel's industry standard MCS 251 microcontroller architecture. It is a high-performance 12MHz controller which features ample data memory space, flexible addressing capability, and efficient high-level language support. The controller is feature and instruction set compatible with Intel's MCS 51/251 microcontroller family, a feature that protects your firmware/software investment.
