Extended End of Life Notification Article is reprinted from the June 1995 EOL notification with updated references to new product offerings only. In our efforts to continually invest in state of the art technology, Intel will be closing Fab 4, the 18-year-old fab located in Oregon, U.S. by early 1997. Several outmoded, military grade products are affected by this closure. The affected product list is attached. Intel recognizes the long product availability requirements of military programs. We have supported some of the Fab 4 products for over 17 years. To continue our dedicated support of the military market, we are implementing an extended end of life policy for the military Fab 4 products. To ease your transition to new solutions, this policy extends the last delivery dates to as late as 1999 for many of the products. Please refer to FACR policies regarding EOL products. Product Type | Final Order Date | Last Delivery Date | CMOS alternative | June 15, 1996 | June 15, 1998 | Sole Source | June 15, 1996 | June 15, 1999 |
This announcement should not be perceived as Intel's intent to exit the military market. We remain committed to supplying state of the art products to the military market. We recently announced three new military grade products. The Pentium® processor, 28F016XS FLASH Memory and the 87C251SB microcontroller provide innovative solutions to today's demanding military and avionics designs. The last order date for the military Fab 4 products is June 15, 1996. This will ensure you, our customer, have adequate time to develop your transition or end of life strategy for these products. It will also give us a clear understanding of your product demand so we can build appropriate levels of material in light of your forecasted requirements. Some of the affected products have CMOS alternatives (see Attachment A). To support the conversion to CMOS products, we are offering two years for delivery with a last delivery date of June 15, 1998. Conversion application notes are available via Faxback [1], and we will assist you and answer any questions to help smooth this transition. For the products that do not have a CMOS alternative, we are offering three years for delivery with a last delivery date of June 15, 1999. Attachment A suggests alternative replacement products. To help us meet your product requirements during the Fab 4 closure, please determine your future product needs and submit your last time buy requirements as soon as possible. All orders will be subject to Intel's standard terms and conditions for orders. We will accept all reasonable orders prior to June 15, 1996. Orders on any excess inventory will be accepted after June 15, 1996. However, we do not expect that there will be excess inventory. Thank you for your immediate attention to this notification. We look forward to continuing to serve you as we have in the past. If you have any questions regarding the extended end of life, please contact your local sales representative or distributor for additional information. |
