Product Description
Intel has developed a family of reference designs that provide
multichip module (MCM) manufacturers and OEMs with the smallest possible Pentium® processor with MMX™
technology and PCI systems. These designs reflect recent advancements in Intel’s mobile architecture and SmartDie®
product roadmaps as well as in MCM design and manufacturing technology.
The availability of MCMs using SmartDie products give customers a wide range of solutions depending on their needs.
SmartDie product-based MCMs are ideal for mobile applications in which size and weight goals cannot be achieved
through packaged products.
Reference Design Features
The latest MCM reference design features the mobile Pentium® processor with MMX™ technology
and the 82439TX System Controller SmartDie products. Other architectural features include 256K L2 cache (optional), digital
thermistor (optional), and a 280 pin interface for the PCI and memory subsystems, voltage, and Southbridge control.
Intel’s MCM reference design for the Pentium Processor with MMX technology SmartDie
product includes:
- Schematics & netlists - Available in several software formats. SRAM option (KGD, packaged, none) gives customers flexibility.
- Bill of materials - Includes manufacturers and part numbers.
- Models - IBIS models of Intel components for simulation purposes.
- Design considerations - Includes physical and thermal considerations.
The complete reference design provides a quick time to market (time to money) option for OEMs
and MCM manufacturers. It serves as an excellent reference for
those customers who desire a customized solution. Intel also
provides an evaluation platform which allows customers to
evaluate system performance and develop software.
Additionally, several MCM
manufacturers are developing modules based on this reference
design for the merchant market. This allows OEMs that do not have
die assembly capability to take advantage of the space saving
benefits of SmartDie product-based MCMs.
MCM Enabling Support
In addition to reference
designs, Intel provides extensive MCM enabling support for
customers. This support includes:
- In-System Test - Low volume test capability for product checkout and
qualification, based on Intel’s PC diagnostics software.
- Production Test Library - Trillium test vectors and necessary documentation to generate
custom test programs (i.e. - program test flow, vector timings and formats, and tester loadboard
reference design)
- Compatibility Verification Report - Design verification report based on comprehensive software and hardware
exercises on MCM prototypes and
evaluation platform.
