Standardized Battery Intelligence: Intel and nine other companies have jointly defined an API for smart batteries which the companies are proposing as an industry standard. Among other functions, this API enables the battery to inform the system (and user) of how much charge there is (capacity), of how long it will last (remaining operating time) and of the time to become fully charged.
