What You Need to Know to Download the InstantON Scheduler
The InstantON software comes as a zip file (ION.ZIP) that will be downloaded when you click the link at the bottom of this page.
System Requirements
To run InstantON, you must be running Windows* 95.
By simply downloading and installing InstantON you can schedule tasks to run on your PC, if you leave your system powered up at all times.
To take full advantage of the power management features of InstantON and save energy, you must have an Energy Star or power-managed system; its BIOS must conform to the Advanced Power Management (APM) Specification V1.1.
To determine whether your system is power managed, follow these steps:
- Go to the Windows 95 Start menu, choose Settings, then choose Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, choose the Power icon. If the Power icon (battery behind a power cord) is missing, your system is not power managed or has not been configured for power management. You can still use the InstantON Scheduler to schedule tasks, but the tasks will only run as long as the system remains at full power. Skip over the next section.
Before installing InstantON on your power-managed system, verify that the suspend and resume features are fully functional on your particular computer with Windows 95 by following these steps:
- Note your current Power settings. Then select Advanced in the Power Management list, and Always for Show Suspend command on Startup menu. Click OK and exit the Control Panel.
- Since most networked based applications are not power aware, you must close any networked based applications or network based files currently opened by applications (such as a server based documentation file being edited with a word processing program).
- Systems that adhere to APM Specification V1.1 will suspend by going into low power mode and will resume and return to full power when you press a key or move the mouse. If your system does not suspend, or does not come back to full power, then it will not support the full power management features of InstantON; however, the scheduling features of InstantON are fully functional as long as your system remains powered up.
- Go to the Start menu and choose Suspend, then move the mouse or press a key after waiting a few seconds.
- If your system did not properly suspend and resume, be sure to restore the power settings to their initial selections.
