EEPROM Replacement with Flash Memory

A cost-effective approach to emulating electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) in flash memory is presented. This method uses standard flash memory components with new low latency suspend/resume circuitry combined with flash media management software to support simultaneous code and data storage in one flash memory component. The flash data integrator (FDI) media management software architecture is presented for EEPROM emulation in cellular phone applications, and is shown to offer a more flexible solution for future enriched data storage.
