AP-619 FTL Logger - Exchanging Data with FTL Systems

This application note gives an overview of the industry standard "Flash Translation Layer" (FTL) as well as the data logging technique known as FTL Logger. FTL Logger is an Intel developed set of utilites and reference code that can be used on a limited resource embedded data logging system. The technique uses an Intel Flash Card which is preformatted with FTL file structures by the FTL Logger Format Utility on a PC platform. The card is then placed in the embedded system which writes its raw data into the empty spaces on the card, skipping over the FTL data structures. The card is then returned to a commercially available FTL enabled PC system, and the data files can be read and processed using standard DOS file commands to access
the data.
