CSSM Java* Application Programming Interface
(CSSM Java API)
The CSSM Java* API provides an object-oriented view of CSSM security services in the Java environment. Applets in the Java environment
that need to add security services can do so by using the security classes provided in the CSSM Java API implementation. The advantage
of using the CSSM Java API is that the functionality provided in the CSSM Java API is the same provided by CSSM to C language
applications in the Windows* environment. This makes it easy for software developers to build security using the same mechanisms in
their Java and Windows applications.
The CSSM Java API implementation uses native methods and can be bound with any Java environment supporting Sun MicroSystems’
Java Development Kit* (JDK) native method library. This includes Microsoft Jakarta* and most versions of Netscape Navigator*.
The single binary provided for download at this time operates only in the Netscape Navigator 3.01 environment on Windows NT* 4.0.
The CSSM Java API provides security services through calls to the CSSM security API. CSSM and a set of add-in security modules must be resident on the system for use by the CSSM Java API implementation. CSSM and an Intel Cryptographic Services Module are available as separate downloads.
The CSSM Java API and CSSM are beta releases. The CSSM software expires, making the Java interface adapter non-functional, on April 30, 1997.
