At Virage, we’re creating technology that lets you search and sort collections of photographs,
graphics, and other images based on the intrinsic visual attributes of the images
themselves -- on their color, structure, texture and color composition.
The number of electronic images in the world is exploding. Driven by the increasing trend
toward digital imaging in photography, medicine, and science, as well as the use of images
on the Internet, individuals companies, and institutions are creating thousands of new
electronic images every day.
Images are a type of data, just like text and numbers. Today, people know how to search,
sort, and operate on numeric and textual data, but their tools force them to treat graphic
images strictly as self-contained binary large objects. Virage is designing ways to tap
into the visual information contained within electronic pictures in intuitive ways and applying this capability to provide robust image asset management solutions.
