The Orion 8800 is a PC-based emulation system providing robust, zero-wait-state support for IntelÆs 80C196 family. Designed especially for real-time embedded control systems, the 8800 combines a responsive user interface with a full-featured, real-time development system for rapid product development and test.
The 8800 provides full execution control. Up to 256 software breakpoints and 65,535 hardware breakpoints allow you to stop your program where and when you want. Internal registers are automatically displayed at each breakpoint and both "step-into" and "step-over" single step-ping as well as C source line stepping is supported. Macros can be defined to automatically display system variables at each breakpoint. High level source lines and symbols can be used in emulator commands and are incorporated in all trace and breakpoint displays. The 8800 supports C compilers from both BSO/Tasking and IAR Systems.
The 8800 offers superior operational transparency. By working directly with the target CPU, the 8800 bypasses the need for special emulation modes such as ONCE*. OrionÆs unique Clip-On Emulation probing technique allows you to connect directly to surface mount CPUs in-circuit. This approach preserves normal CPU timing and provides a more accurate view of real-time system activity. The 8800 offers full speed emulation to 50 MHz with zero-wait-states.
The 8800 also features a multilevel real-time event system for non-intrusive trace capture and display. This event system lets you define and refine real-time events and capture real-time traces repeatedly without stopping or affecting the target. Together with real-time trace filtering and a deep 64K trace buffer, the 8800 offers the features necessary for capturing and identifying problems while your target runs at full speed.
The 8800 is hosted by a fast DOS windowed interface, providing quick access to all 8800 emulator functions.
