Intel FLASHBuilder Family

FLASHBuilder Software

Product Overview

Intel's FLASHBuilder family of products for Microsoft Windows* enables system designers to choose and integrate flash memory components or a flash media manager into their application. Each FLASHBuilder product is designed with a graphical user interface to access source code, utilities and on-line documentation for flash components and flash software—all in Hypertext form. Intel's family of FLASHBuilder products—the first of its kind—helps reduce time-to-market by providing necessary source code and utilities, which makes it easier to select the appropriate flash memory component or filing system for an application.

INTEL FLASHBUILDER FAMILY

Product Description

Intel's FLASHBuilder family consists of three separate products—FLASHBuilder 16 Mbit, FLASHBuilder Boot Block and Flash SOFTWAREBuilder. FLASHBuilder 16 Mbit and FLASHBuilder Boot Block enable design and application engineers to select the optimum Intel Flash memory component for specific applications through an easy-to-use graphical user interface.

FLASHBuilder 16 Mbit supports Intel's 28F016SA/SV FlashFile™ and 28F016XS/XD Fast Flash components by providing programming and erase algorithms in both C and ASM, cycling/benchmarking utilities, timing/waveform specifications, on-line documentation and user's manual.

FLASHBuilder Boot Block has the same format as FLASHBuilder 16 Mbit, except it contains information specific to the Boot Block family of products. FLASHBuilder Boot Block supports Intel's High Integration Boot Block Flash memory components, including the 1-, 2-, 4- and 8-Mbit BX/BL and SmartVoltage Boot Block components. To simplify the design process, an intuitive interface for both the FLASHBuilder 16 Mbit and FLASHBuilder Boot Block offers a graphical representation of device functional blocks within the flash memory architecture.

SOFTWAREBuilder directs design and application engineers to the optimum flash media manager for a specific Intel flash application. In one package the user gets everything necessary to start designing with a file system. This greatly eases the implementation of Intel's Flash components and cards, and speeds time-to-market. Included is Intel-developed source code for flash managers and utilities, information about other available flash software solutions and an automated decision tree that aids customers in choosing the best flash software solution for their application. For ease of design, an intuitive interface to the source code enables the user to browse through the files, examine the functions and then launch the file into a text editor for modifications. Several of its file systems conform to PCMCIA specifications to allow compatibility and data transportability to other systems, including LFS File Manager, Virtual Small Block, Flash Translation Layer, iBootLoader, FTL Logger and EEPROM Replacement.
