Flite*

Flite* is a filing system and flash media manager targeted for consumer devices that require file handling capabilities with a need to transfer files/data back to a desktop computer. One of the first, wide-spread uses of Flite will be with a new, very small, removable flash cartridge, called the miniature card. Led by Intel, this new card standard offers the capability for low-cost, portable mass storage of images, sound and other digital data.
The key to implementing the miniature card or other flash memory storage solutions is the ability to store the information in easily-readable files which can be transferred to any desktop or laptop computer.
M-Systems Flite provides the technology to enable this solution. Flite uses the industry standard Flash Translation Layer (FTL) format which can be read or written on desktop computers configured with widely available FTL software, such as M-Systems own True Flash File System.

Flite integrates a DOS FAT file system with the FTL data format standard. FTL provides a layer which makes the flash memory appear as a standard block device which can be written and read just like any hard disk.
